Cataract surgery, explained honestly — before you decide.

TL;DR

If you've been told you have a cataract, or your vision is blurring and glare bothers you at night, you have time to understand your choices. We'll explain when surgery genuinely helps, what each lens does, and what it costs — then you decide. No pressure, ever.

What a cataract is

The natural lens inside your eye slowly clouds with age, so colours dull and lights glare. It's common, and it's fixable — by replacing the cloudy lens with a clear artificial one.

When surgery actually helps (and when to wait)

Surgery is worth doing when the cataract starts limiting things you care about — reading, driving at night, recognising faces. If it isn't troubling you yet, it's often reasonable to wait and watch. We'll tell you honestly which camp you're in.

How we do it

We use phacoemulsification / micro-incision cataract surgery (MICS) with the Alcon LEGION phacoemulsification system — a small, stitch-free incision, under local anaesthetic, usually in well under an hour. Most patients walk in and go home the same day.

We use Tomey OA-2000 optical biometry and Alcon VERION image-guided planning to calculate and verify your lens precisely before surgery.

Your lens options

A monofocal lens gives clear vision at one distance (you may still need reading glasses). A toric lens also corrects astigmatism. EDOF and multifocal lenses can reduce glasses dependence further, with trade-offs we'll explain frankly. The right lens fits your eyes, your daily life, and your budget — not the most expensive one.

The day & recovery

Drops, a short painless procedure, a brief rest, and home. Most people notice clearer vision within a day or two, with a simple drop schedule and follow-up. We give you written instructions and our number for any worry.

Cost depends on lens type and clinical needs. We discuss ranges at consultation. Send insurance details on WhatsApp if applicable.
